Brighton Improv - Free Taster

Class description

What is improv, anyway?

Improv is theatre—or comedy—without a script. It’s stories and scenes made up on the spot. But it’s also so much more. It’s a brilliant way to build confidence, stay calm under pressure, spark creativity, and meet new people. It can shift how you see the world, how you relate to others, and even how you understand yourself. And yes, it’s guaranteed to make you laugh.

Improv is many things: you might call it yoga for the soul, or mindfulness for show-offs (although plenty of non-show-offs love it too).

So… what does it actually feel like?

That’s where our free taster sessions come in.

These friendly, no-pressure classes are the perfect way to dip your toe into improv and see what it’s all about. You’ll be gently introduced to core improv ideas—like saying “yes and,” supporting your scene partners, and being obvious (in the best way). Through fun warm-ups and easy group or pair exercises, you’ll get a real taste of the joy and connection that improv offers.

The session lasts 90 minutes, and there’s no commitment—just come along, have a go, and see what you think. There may even be a cheeky discount if you decide to join our beginner’s course afterwards.

Who is it for?

Absolutely anyone over 18. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, identities, and abilities. We believe improv is for everyone, and we do our best to make our sessions as accessible and inclusive as possible.

If there’s anything we can do to make the class more comfortable for you, just drop us a line at hello@andalsoimprov.com.

Teachers

Ben Tucker

An improviser and keen purveyor of play. His time as an advertising creative has honed a knack for original ideas and a healthy disdain of hustle culture! Ben has taught Creative writing, created Escape Rooms, written and performed radio comedy, made board games, animated shorts, and engaged in plenty of other creatively nourishing pursuits. He discovered improv because the pottery class was full. He performs regularly in various shows… The &Also House Team, ‘Arcadia’, a regular with Ric and Simon at the monthly show ‘Scoops’, also ‘Made Up’, an improvised musical offering with freestyle rapper ‘Gramski’. Ben runs Buckbuck, an immersive theatre company that focuses on human interaction. He has performed and led entertainment at festivals, conferences, exhibitions, and parties for a wide range of clients, including Boomtown, Virgin, Apple, TikTok, Netflix, and Barclays. Favourite improv moment: A one-on-one moment while puppeteering a fortune teller. A young girl whose dad had recently passed, was asking when the boy she liked would like her back. ‘Zoltan’ encouraged her to find love in herself with her music, singing, and other things she enjoyed. She skipped away, enlightened! I cried.
