Class description

What is frustrating and inspiring you in improvisation right now?

Starting each time from this question, this course has no syllabus apart from what you bring and what we discover together. In the past, focuses have included dialogue, variety in relationships, being bold, structures of scenes and many other things. The aim of this class is to explore how we improvise without a set end goal, discovering what works and doesn’t for each individual, making you more flexible and responsive to your partner, the situation and how you are feeling in the scene. Come do a class of exactly the improv that you want and need right now.

This course is for experienced improvisers, level 3+ on the AndAlso training pathway, or 1 year of regular improv practice with an alternative provider. Email jules@andalsoimprov.com if you're unsure if this course is right for you.

This course is on Tuesdays for 6 weeks from 3rd November to 8th December, 19:30-21:30 UK time.

Teachers

Jules Munns

Jules is an experienced improviser, director, and facilitator who combines deep expertise in longform improv with a passion for creative team development. He began improvising at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and went on to co-found The Nursery, where he served as Artistic Director for over a decade. In that role, Jules ran both the theatre and the company’s house teams, as well as designing and delivering corporate training programmes. He also co-created Slapdash, London’s first international improv festival. Jules continues to perform with The Maydays, including their acclaimed touring show Happily Never After, and was the director of the original run of Impromptu Shakespeare. As a teacher and coach, Jules specialises in scenework, team dynamics, and classic longform structures such as the Harold, Deconstruction, and Armando. His facilitation style is experimental and boundary-pushing, encouraging participants to explore new possibilities and challenge their creative limits. Favourite improv moment: Watching a group of first-time improvisers spontaneously discover a shared rhythm that carried a scene to an unexpected and powerful conclusion.
