Class description

Be Bold & Confident

In improv and in life, there is rarely a perfect choice. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make strong ones. It is so easy to lose faith in what you are doing, to sabotage your own ideas before they are even formed. Making a choice and sticking to it is very valuable, onstage and off. In our second level, you will concentrate on making clear decisions, sticking to them and supporting others as they do the same. You will be bold in your leading and your following, becoming more at ease in front of an audience.

This course focuses on the building block of any improv show: the scene. Over twelve weeks, you will be introduced to common tools and building blocks of scene work. You will look at how to use a suggestion, be inspired by your partner and how your characters can agree or disagree, react emotionally and be consistent without feeling like you are following a formula. Examining these ideas through lots of practice and feedback will make you confident and relaxed, knowing what makes scenes fun to play and fun to watch.

This course finishes with a voluntary end-of-term showcase of scenes and games directed by your teacher.

End-of-term Showcase

You'll perform in an end-of-term showcase for friends and family on Saturday, 5th December at the Lantern Theatre.

Important Notes:

  • Although most of our students perform at the end of their courses, all showcases are optional. They are not tests or graduations; they are just a chance to do what you have been doing in class and receive the adulation of your loved ones.
  • While we strive to maintain the advertised showcase schedule, dates are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will not be issued in the event of a showcase date alteration.

    Jen Rowe

    Jen is an experienced improviser, facilitator, and creative coach who brings theatrical expertise and a deep understanding of ensemble dynamics to her professional development work. After studying theatre at ACT Brighton, Jen discovered improvisation in 2005 and has since trained at top schools including The Annoyance and Second City Chicago. She performs regularly with The Maydays and Impromptu Shakespeare, blending classical text with improvisational play to create engaging, dynamic performances. At AndAlso, Jen specialises in facilitating workshops that help teams improve communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving through the principles of improv. Her teaching draws on years of stagecraft experience and a passion for ensemble work, creating sessions that are both inspiring and practical. She focuses on helping individuals and groups develop trust, adaptability, and presence—skills vital for success in today’s fast-changing workplaces. Jen’s approach is warm, thoughtful, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each group. She believes in the transformative power of improv not just for artists, but for professionals seeking to innovate, connect, and thrive. Favourite improv moment: Watching a reserved participant discover their voice mid-workshop—and the ripple effect it had on the entire team’s energy and confidence.
