Class description

Spontaneity & Play

Do you want to feel more relaxed and creative? To learn improvisation in a sociable, collaborative way? Or maybe meet new people in a friendly environment, to laugh hard and maybe even surprise yourself.

AndAlso’s first level introduces the core skills of improvisation in the form of listening, saying ‘Yes And’ and trusting the process. All the while learning to love failure. In doing these simple things, you will find the delight of creating on the fly. Simple improv exercises give you opportunities to reflect on your habits and maybe even change them. The first step to becoming a seasoned improviser and maybe making your life just a little bit easier.

Over two six-week blocks, our expert teachers will guide even the most nervous of new improvisers from simple games through more complex structures into the basics of scene work, concentrating both on the immediate fun and how to apply your new skills outside the classroom.

Our level 1 is perfect if you have never done any improvisation before or want to brush up on your skills. Level 1a leads into our Level 1b, which will deepen your understanding and give you more opportunities to practice and grow. This course finishes with a voluntary performance of scenes and games directed by your teacher.

End-of-term Showcase

You'll perform in an end-of-term showcase for friends and family on Saturday, 5th December at the Lantern Theatre.

Important Notes:

  • Although most of our students perform at the end of their courses, all showings are optional. They are not tests or graduations; they are just a chance to do what you have been doing in class and receive the adulation of your loved ones.
  • While we strive to maintain the advertised showcase schedule, dates are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will not be issued in the event of a showcase date alteration.

    Juwel Haque

    Juwel is an improviser, facilitator, and creative thinker who combines deep curiosity with a passion for building inclusive, playful learning environments. Starting improv classes after work, Juwel quickly immersed himself in the art form—forming teams, volunteering at schools and theatres, and exploring a wide range of styles and teachers. Now an adept performer and longform facilitator, he performs regularly with The Maydays and is a founding member of Britain’s first all-Asian improv ensemble, The Comediasians. He also plays at festivals with the all-star group Somewhat Theatre and delights audiences with his solo games act, Player One. Juwel has directed original shows such as the sports-themed United and pirate radio-inspired Tag FM, and has served the London improv community in multiple roles including producer, photographer, and Theatre Manager for The Nursery. Obsessed with how things work, Juwel explores the mechanics and psychology behind smart, engaging improv. His facilitation style is gentle, thoughtful, and reflective, focused on lowering barriers, encouraging curiosity, and helping participants surprise and delight themselves and each other. At AndAlso, Juwel creates sessions that foster belonging, creative confidence, and playful collaboration—skills essential for thriving teams and individuals. Favourite improv moment: Watching a hesitant participant take a bold leap into a new format—and discovering a joyous, unexpected strength that inspired the whole group.
